"Sad houses" is a crowdsourcing map of vacant houses in Spain.
The idea for Casastristes was born in Spain getting notice of the huge amount of empty houses at the same time renting and real estate prices rose a lot. It were the last years of real estate bubble and construction business was in his best years.
The initial idea was to create data visualizations giving an broad overview of housing problems in Spain and building a community of people interested in this topics. It was a big change of paradigm for the project as we suddenly found ourselves with the implementation of the system that enabled to geolocate houses and upload them on the web.
Cultural institutions invited us to expose the project which was used to make workshops on mapping empty houses to involve local groups of citizens.
